Why Embrace Change?

Change is like the seasons—inevitable and ever-present! Our bodies change, our circumstances change, and our relationships change. It’s totally how we respond to these changes that shapes our journey. Taking on change with a positive viewpoint means growth, resilience, and new opportunities. And by welcoming change, we give ourselves the opportunity to evolve and thrive in ways we never imagined. When we resist change, we often end up miss out on exciting possibilities that lie ahead. Adapting to change can boost our confidence levels and show us just how capable we truly are. So, buckle up, my friends because we’re about to turn change from a daunting monster that it can be (and I frequently thought that it was) into an exciting adventure!


Routines Are Great, But So Is Flexibility


I’ve always been a routine-lover.  And lots of weeks, every minute of my day is scheduled! Knowing what to expect and sticking to a schedule brings me comfort. The thing is thought—life doesn’t always stick to our plans. That would often send me flailing off the cliff like Wild E. Coyote being chased by the Road Runner!


Taking on change means learning to roll with the punches and finding joy in the unexpected. Being flexible allows us to adapt to new situations and discover hidden strengths. We are all stronger than we often give ourselves credit for. When we open ourselves to change, we create chances and pathways to new passions and interests that enrich our lives. Flexibility doesn’t mean you let go of  your routines; it means bending without breaking and finding balance in the middle of all the chaos. It’s about being resourceful and definitely resilient, allowing us to thrive in ever-changing environments.


I know it’s “easy” for me to say or type this but as Elwood P. Dowd from Mary Chase’s Harvey says:


Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, "In this world, Elwood, you must be" - she always called me Elwood - "In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant.

In this world, I have learned that it is better to roll with changes and finding joy in the unexpected! It does not come naturally but I did coach myself and others that it is totally possible.




The Dark Side of Resisting Change


Resisting change can lead to chronic stress, which can negatively impact both mental and physical health. Know that I write from experience here and I wish it was a lesson I only had to be taught once. It can increase the risk of conditions such as anxiety, depression, heart disease, and sleep disorders. Furthermore, a lack of adaptation can strain relationships and reduce your overall ability to enjoy life. It’s essential to recognize when we are fighting change and understand the dangerous effects it can have. Taking the time to learn to manage our resistance and finding ways to embrace change can help prevent these negative outcomes. By knowing, creating and honoring our boundaries, prioritizing rest, and seeking support, we can navigate change with greater ease and maintain our well-being.



Turning Things Around: Practical Tips for Navigating Change


💖 Recognize, honor and even embrace change as a natural part of life. Embrace the feelings that come with it—fear, excitement, sadness, joy, anger, and yes, love. Sitting with and accepting these feelings allows you to process and move through them more swiftly. Resisting change only creates more stress and anxiety. When you resist change, change fights back, and when we accept change, we open ourselves to new possibilities and growth


🌟 Professional support can provide valuable insights and guidance during times of change. I totally turned to an energy healer who connected me to my next step, opening my eyes to holistic well-being. Therapists and coaches do what they do because they want you to live with highest quality of life so if you find yourself struggling they are ready to be your support!


📚 Prioritize activities that bring you joy, like reading and spending time in nature. Hobbies are not just fun—they're essential! Self-care helps you recharge and maintain balance during transitions.


🌀 Adjust your routines and expectations. Flexibility is a sign of strength. It helps you adapt to new circumstances with ease. Life doesn’t always go as planned, and being flexible helps you navigate the unexpected with more ease and grace.


📅 Create a daily schedule that includes time for exercise, healthy meals, and relaxation. This made me feel more grounded and in control. A well-structured routine provides stability and a sense of normalcy. It can also provide comfort in maintaining your non-negotiables in life - mine are moving every day and making the best food and fuel choices for me!


🍎 Focus on a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. Meal prepping provides peace of mind. Proper nutrition supports your energy levels and mood, making it easier to cope with stress.


🧘‍♀️ Practicing mindfulness through meditation and journaling helped me stay centered. Positive affirmations as a daily habit and also a non-negotiable is essential! These practices enhance emotional resilience and mental clarity.


💤 Make sleep a priority. Adequate rest improves overall well-being significantly. Prioritize sleep as part of your self-care routine. It’s crucial for your overall health.


🏃‍♀️ Listen to your body and incorporate regular physical activity without over-exercising. Balance is key. Physical activity boosts your mood and energy levels, but it's important not to overdo it. I also have had to be taught this lesson more than once.


🛑 Set clear boundaries between work and personal time to avoid burnout.  Knowing or  creating your boundaries ensures you have time for yourself and your loved ones.


👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Spend more quality time with family and friends, rediscovering shared interests. Building strong relationships provides emotional support during times of change.


📞 Reach out to friends and family, sharing your journey and gaining new perspectives and encouragement. Building a strong support network can make a world of difference.


🌈 Your mindset shapes your reality. Focus on the opportunities that change brings. Practice gratitude and stay optimistic. A positive outlook helps you see change as an opportunity rather than a challenge.


🌍 The unknown is where growth happens. Embrace it with curiosity and openness. Trust your strength and resilience. Stepping into the unknown can lead to exciting new adventures and personal growth.


📝 Take time to reflect on changes. What have you learned? How have you grown? Reflection provides insight and wisdom. Learning from past experiences prepares you for future changes.
